Scene Analysis - Schindler's List

I've really enjoyed this years Film Language, I like the difference between the practical part of filming but also the academic film studies, I feel as though I'm doing REAL work. This was not an easy task though and I did struggle. I'm excited to see what the rest of the year will bring.

People on the Move - Filming

We've finished our filming for The People On The Move project finally. After 3 cold grassy days.
A lot of standing around especially in a park busy but we really enjoyed it. Thanks to Alan and Dan! Dave's brothers for being our lovely actors.

People on the Move - Recce

Sophie and I went the graveyard park at the anglican cathedral, it was beautiful but really spooky. I think its the perfect location for our film, We'll just have to watch out for the undead.

Creativity techniques

We looked into different thinking/creativity techniques. we were split into groups and each given a different type of technique to research and present, ours was Eno Cards. I found them really interesting as the user must do exactly what it says on the card. some of the cards were very strange.

Animation

We looked into animation in digital tools, I found this really interesting as I made a puppet show at a level using stop motion in parts and it's something I've always enjoyed watching and making.
I looking forward to seeing what my own will look like. Heres a video of one of my favorites from YouTube.

Collective Intelligence Assignment

We were given an assignment to produce a wiki page to display our research into the book "We Think" by Charles Leadbetter. We really struggled with enthusiasm for this project. The book was boring and so was making the wiki page, hopefully we wont be doing anything of the like again.

Here's our Wiki page - http://contemporarymediaissues.wetpaint.com/page/Charles+Leadbeater+-+We+think

People on the Move Assignment

This assignment is a to create a FILM! This is what I love to do! We have to have a person on the move (obviously) which will last around 1 min 30 seconds. We must follow the 180 degree rule and have interesting shots, I'm really looking forward to beginning this.

Feedback - Storyboard

We were given our feedback for our storyboards, it was mostly positive for the presentation and props however we received a less that brilliant mark in certain parts as the narrative was hard to understand, which is the main part of the project :/ It's definitely something to work on in the future.

Final Storyboard - Speed Dating

Our storyboard assignment went well, we handed it in on time and Camilla and Corin seemed pleased. It was a bit of a rush near the end trying to get everything done on time but we worked as a team and completed it. Its about a boy who goes speed dating to get over his girlfriend but falls back in love with her when he sees shes an employee. I'm quite proud of it.

Photoshop my nemesis.

In Digital tools we began editing our images in Photoshop using filters to change the hue and brightness giving the photo a cleaner more professional look. I didn't enjoy using Photoshop and I never have done, I find it too complicated and some of the tools do not do what they say they do, I'd much prefer to use Paint.NET, hopefully it will be a programme we use next year.

Storyboards

We have been assigned the task of creating a storyboard using photographs only to tell the story. I have found it quite easy to create rough sketches of storyboard idea as I've done this sort of thing at A- level, however I think that enabling everybody to understand what I mean may be a little trickier.

What Is Creativity?

In today's Creativity and Concept lesson we looked at what creativity is . Oxford Dictionary describes creativity as "the use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness". We couldn't exactly decide a true definition as creativity is different for every person but we all agree it is something that is needed and coveted.

Digital Tools

Everyday objects

We were asked to take photographs of things around us that we wouldn't usually notice. I took a few on my commute to university but this one is some Turkish dolls that my sister brought back from a holiday. I think the lighting is really beautiful and I think I followed the rule of thirds, emphasis on think.
I've uploaded some more on my flikr

Special Items

In this weeks lesson we were asked to bring in an item that meant something to us personally. It didn't matter the value or age of the item as long as it was special. I brought in an old film book from the 70's that was given to me by my granddad. He'd had it as long as I can remember and we'd look at all the black and white classics together. It's one of the things that increased my love for film so I thought it was fitting to bring in as my special item.

We were split into groups in class and made a prezi presentation about each of our items and what they mean to us. Afterwards we presented our prezis to the class. It was lovely and interesting to see a small snippet of the strangers lives that I will be spending 3 three years with.

My time at University

I began my first year of university in September this year in John Moores University in my hometown of Liverpool. Liverpool is a city I'm still in love with and though leaving home would be an exciting adventure to embark on, I still feel as though I need to be here, for the time being at least. The course I'm studying is "Media Professional Studies" which will take three years to complete. Whilst in sixth form I took Media studies, this is where I received some experience in filming, photography and various editing packages. I think those two years of study inspired me to take this aspect of my education to a degree level. Films are a great passion of mine, I don't go a day without watching some sort film or video, be it a dvd or YouTube, the subject just feels natural to me.
The future is something I daydream about constantly but when being honest I'm reluctant to seriously think about it, though I know that I should. If my daydreams come true I'll be a successful film director, I'm just planning to work hard and have a good time. Hopefully fate will be on my side.

I'm so excited to start this new chapter of my life.
